In the mid-seventies, God burdened Wales Goebel's heart for young girls who were experiencing trauma as a result of an abortion. In 1980, the Sav-A-Life ministry was founded. In the winter of 1984 meetings were held at Seventh Street Baptist Church to organize and open a center in Bessemer, AL. On January 22, 1985 and affiliation agreement was signed and Sav-A-Life Bessemer began.

The center opened on March 15, 1985 at 800 19th Street North in Bessemer. Today the center is located on Highway 150 in the Bessemer Baptist Association Building. A satellite office in Hueytown opened in September of 2003 on Allison Bonnett Memorial Drive.

Today there are sixty-four Sav-A-Life affiliate centers in Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, and Tennessee. Each center has its own board of directors and staff and each raises its own support to operate their center.

On July 1,2005 Sav-A-Life Inc. merged with Care Net, a large organization that shares the same mission and goals to reach out to young ladies who are considering having an abortion. There are now over 1000 centers all over the United States that share a national toll free option line, 1-800-395-HELP.
