SEWING UPDATE
We had friends that came and picked up bags of new maternity clothes that needed repairs. They were donated to us after a tornado relief center closed. Canaan Baptist Church picked up bags and bags!!!
We had three girls this past week that were so happy to receive such beautiful clothes, but one really touched our hearts. She came in looking for help because of all the turmoil in her family; stress of looking for a job; questioning if she could parent her child as a single mom. She said her mom was just 12 years older than her and was never really a mom to her. What she needed was a friend.
She found friends at the center and also heard about a friend who would never leave her-Jesus! She mentioned she is considering a move to Texas with her aunt and she even had job offers there, but she didn’t have any clothes to wear to work. I wish you could have seen her face as she went through these beautiful clothes that you mended for HER! She was so grateful! She came in so sad but she left with the something she never expected –she saw the love of Christ in action – THANK YOU!!!
HER NAME IS JOANIE AND SHE IS MAKING A DIFFERENCE
She lives in a small southern town, and when walkathon stories are told, hers is one of those at the top of the list. You see, Joanie has a condition that makes walking difficult, and sometimes impossible. But . . . she participated in the Walk for Life at her center.
She started early, getting out of her wheelchair a few weeks before the event and walking the first of the two miles before she lost her strength. On the day of the event, a friend pushed her the other mile, so that she could complete the event.
And yet at the end of the event, she was thanking her pregnancy care ministry for giving her an opportunity to participate. That year, Joanie raised more than $700 dollars for her center. And each year since, Joanie was a part of the Walk for Life.
To the folks in her town, she is a hero.To us, her story should be inspiring as well.
On February 4th, we will hold our annual Walk for Life. If you can’t make it that day, you can always walk on your own at another time—like Joanie did. Or if you can, we would love to have you join us as we raise funds to impact the lives of women facing crisis pregnancies.
Joanie died on February 23, 2006. Her story is a simple reminder that the Walk is for all of us. Each of us, in our own way, can make a difference to impact lives. This year, why not join us at the Walk for Life?
